Bow Wow Wow! After an afternoon Common Sense beach party gig,
Phil steamed up the 405 to make the Agoura Hills show. Meanwhile the
rest of the band and crew were enjoying a rather excellent dinner, served
in a rather civilized private dining room, courtesy of the Canyon Club’s
fabulous hospitality crew. By the time Phil arrived, soundcheck was
over – and his 3-inch thick steak had cooled. At 9 pm, when the band were due to go on, a line
was still snaking outside the already packed club. With punters begging
the BWW crew not to let the band go onstage until they’d got into
the club, the band went on a little later than scheduled at 9.15 pm.
The band’s opener, “Sun, Sea & Piracy,” served
as the full soundcheck the band weren’t able to have in the afternoon,
but by the end of the song they had hit their stride. At 10 pm sharp,
the lighting guy dimmed the lights, signaling to the band that they
should leave the stage. But they hadn’t yet given up The Candy,
and knowing there would be a lot of disappointed fans, Annabella shouted
for lights from the stage and the band played on. Time constraints meant
the band had to cut their set short however, depriving the crowd of
“C30, C60, C 90 Go” and “Golly Golly Go Buddy.”
But the military-style scheduling didn’t dampen the band’s spirits. The show had gone really well. Everyone had had huge amounts of fun on stage and off, and many of the band’s friends and family had come out to see this local gig. As co-headliners Berlin began their set, the backstage area filled, and by the end of the evening there was not a beer to be found. Afterwards, BWW’s new mailing list crew, Stacy and Chris, organized a meet and greet for those who’d stayed late to meet the band.
